The idea behind Duometry
A phone that can be folded is a fascinating device. I’ve always been curious about other foldable devices and the possibilities they offer, so I was happy to see Apple enter this space with the Duo.
The Duo brings new ways to use iOS, which is exciting in itself. It also adds another way to interact with apps: using the hinge as an input by folding the phone.
My first question when I saw the Duo was the same one I ask with every new Apple device or software release: What can you do with this that you couldn’t do before?
I quickly realized that my next app wouldn’t be a tool, but a game built around this new interaction.
The idea was: what if you could use your Duo to measure angles and turn that into a game?
The result is Duometry, an angle-guessing game for iPhone Duo and other iPhones.
Introducing Duometry
On iPhone Duo, Duometry uses the phone’s hinge as the controller.
The main premise is: you get a random target angle between 0 and 180 degrees and fold your phone to where you think that angle is. Once you lock in your guess, the app measures how close you were and gives you a score.
You can play solo or take turns on one phone with up to eight players, over five or ten rounds. Multiplayer is also a great way to try out Duo with your friends.
You can also play on other iPhones, using an on-screen dial to adjust your angle.
Features
- Play solo over 5 or 10 rounds and aim for your best score.
- Pass one device between 2–8 players for a friendly competition.
- Explore angles at your own pace with the dial. On iPhone Duo, Free Measure lets you read the phone’s fold angle directly.
- Come back for a daily challenge with three targets.
- Different daily modes put your angle intuition and visual memory to the test.
Outlook
Duometry is ready for iPhone Duo.
I hope Apple will open up simultaneous use of both displays to more types of apps in the future. But I think Duometry already provides a unique Duo experience.

Duometry is available now on the App Store for US$2.99, with no ads or in-app purchases.
